N I G E R I A  The population in Nigeria in 2018 was 195 million, Nigeria is known to be "the country of the young" meaning that out of the 195 million Nigerians, 31 million are children 5 years of age or under. There are at least 7 million babies born each year in Nigeria which makes you wonder are the children being given the necessary care they need. The trends in under five mortality rate has gone down in Nigeria since 1990. In the graph to the right you can barely see the numbers however, the number of deaths per 1,000 lives birth have dropped significantly. A F G H A N I S T A N - Maternal Health Located in Southeast Asia, Afghanistan is the only country within the region to  still show relative high numbers of maternal mortality. Within the demonstration to the right you can see how Afghanistan numbers for maternal mortality range between  (500-999) out of 100,000 live births, which is very high compared to the rest in the Southeast Asia region where the numbers are declining.   In the news we rarely hear anything related to maternal health in Afghanistan, it is known for being a war zone. I N D O N E S I A Maternal Health     Indonesia also known as Republic of Indonesia reported had a population in 2017 of roughly 264 million. Many people who do not know much about the country of Indonesia is seen as an emerging lower middle class country where about 25.9 million Indonesian still live below the poverty line. Although there is still a somewhat large portion of upper middle class Indonesians not all have the luxury to afford healthcare.  To right is a graph that demonstrates how only 58 percent of those who live in poverty do not have the access they need to have a skilled birth attendant while in labor compared to those who do have the access to provide for the mother and baby with a skilled birth attendant during labor. C H A D  Chad is located in North Central Africa, the population in 2017 was roughly around 15 million. Amongst those 15 million in 2018 120,000 in Chad were affected with HIV, 6500 were newly infected and 3100 had died from AIDS related illnesses. Although there has been some progress within the years the Republic of Chad still has a long way to go.   As present in the graph to the left it indicates how there has been a decline in AIDs related deaths in the recent years. In 2010 there was a 12% decrease in AIDs related deaths  from 3500 to 3100 deaths. The small decrease still is an achievement within the Republic of Chad however as the years have gone on since 2010 it has remained constant thus, the amount of deaths still related to AIDs are high.  C A M E R O O N           Cameroon is a small country located in Central Africa, the population in the country is roughly  around 25 million. Cameroon is noticed as a developing country due to its government it "ranks as 152 out f 180 countries that  in the 2018 Transparency International  corruption perceptions index, and 166 out of 190 economies in the World Bank’s Doing Business 2019  report." (The World Bank 2019).       Most developing countries lack the resources for exceptional  healthcare, that being said Cameroon is one that does not have the best track record for having skilled Midwives that can help save lives. Democratic People's Republic of Korea North Korea or more officially called Democratic People's Republic of Korea have an 66 deaths out of 100,000 lives births and although this does not seem as much of an issue to other countries, we still have to factor in how many people including women are deprived many necessities of life because of their government. If you were to look around the other countries in East Asia you would easily be able to compare the numbers to each other, in 2017 Japan had 5 deaths out of 100,000 live births, South Korea had 11 deaths out of 100,000 live births. Due to the lack of a well-built health system more than half of under five age deaths occur  during the first 28 days of life due to preterm birth complications.
