Democratic People's Republic of Korea

 North Korea or more officially called Democratic People's Republic of Korea have an 66 deaths out of 100,000 lives births and although this does not seem as much of an issue to other countries, we still have to factor in how many people including women are deprived many necessities of life because of their government. If you were to look around the other countries in East Asia you would easily be able to compare the numbers to each other, in 2017 Japan had 5 deaths out of 100,000 live births, South Korea had 11 deaths out of 100,000 live births. Due to the lack of a well-built health system more than half of under five age deaths occur during the first 28 days of life due to preterm birth complications. The preterm birth complications could be avoided in some cases if women had better education on their pregnancy, the necessities for their pregnancies from their government. Although, we don't know much about North Korea we do have some knowledge on the fact that the Government does withhold many life saving needs for their people. 
In the Sustainable Development Goal 3 it states that one its own goal for Good and Health and Well-Being is to "By 2030, end preventable deaths of newborns and children under 5 years of age, with all countries aiming to reduce neonatal mortality to at least as low as 12 per 1,000 live births and under-5 mortality to at least as low as 25 per 1,000 live births." (United Nations 2019). When looking more in details for the maternal mortality rates in North Korea the United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund (UNICEF) will be working with their "government to focusing on the provision of life-saving humanitarian interventions for the most vulnerable communities" (UNICEF). It also states how it implemented Integrated Management of Newborn and Childhood Illnesses (IMNCI) program focuses on the major causes of under-five mortality, as well as UNICEF making sure that the Ministry of Public health will be supported to ensure that many "humanitarian needs and risk" are better taken care of.

    Marisa,
    You chose the same theme and format that I have on my blog! I enjoyed reading your information on South Korean. You were exactly right; I really had no idea about how many deaths per 100,000 births was alot or a little when you first reported the number of 66 per 100,000 births in Korea. It was so helpful for you to include the comparison numbers of other Asian countries.

    I was grateful to learn about the resources available to support Korea in SDG 3 so that there less projected cases of newborn death and better prenatal care.

C H A D  Chad is located in North Central Africa, the population in 2017 was roughly around 15 million. Amongst those 15 million in 2018 120,000 in Chad were affected with HIV, 6500 were newly infected and 3100 had died from AIDS related illnesses. Although there has been some progress within the years the Republic of Chad still has a long way to go.   As present in the graph to the left it indicates how there has been a decline in AIDs related deaths in the recent years. In 2010 there was a 12% decrease in AIDs related deaths  from 3500 to 3100 deaths. The small decrease still is an achievement within the Republic of Chad however as the years have gone on since 2010 it has remained constant thus, the amount of deaths still related to AIDs are high.
